Last Chinese New Year, we spent our holidays in Melaka. Together with the children, we visited most of the famous places in Melaka. As we stayed in Equatorial Hotel, it is strategic location and easy for us to go anywhere from there. Very near to the hotel is Dataran Pahlawan Melaka MegaMall. It is located strategically in the heart of the city and I can say the Mall is becoming part of the Melaka Central Historical District. Wherever you are, you will find your way here through many accessible highways and roads. Its very nice place, you can find almost anything you want here in one building!
We went to Porta De Santiago (AFamosa), built by the Portuguese in year 1511 as a fortress it sustained severe structural damage during the Dutch Invasion. The British had set to destroy it but timely intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of A' Famosa today. You can find a lot of local people, also tourists here walking around and also riding 'beca' (trishaw).
Near to Porta De Santiago, you can find Melaka Sultanate Palace. Situated at the foot of St. Paul's Hill, it is the only Malay palace from Melaka's glorious past built with such detail and refinement.
Also dont forget to visit The Maritime Museum or 'Flora de La Mar', a Portuguese ship that sank off the coast of Melaka while on its way to Portugal, carrying loot plundered from Melaka. Work on the replica started in early 1990 and it was opened to the public in 1994. The Maritime Museum was officially opened by the Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on June 13, 1994.
We also visited Al-Azim Mosque, Tanquerah Mosque, Pantai Puteri (fomerly known as Tanjung Keling). We went through historical and also nice places like Jonker Walk, Stadthyus (also known as the Red Square).
Also we didnt miss the chance to visit Zoo Melaka...
I brought my children to visit Malacca High School. Well actually I was here just for about 3 months but I am proud to be one of the students of this good school.
Before went back to KL, we stopped by at this Roti John stall near to Kem Terendak. The taste is still the same even though I didnt taste it for the past 17 years! Only the price is different..
umm.. Kem Terendak... the most memorable place of me and my family.
